There are different recycling carts in Davis, with either blue or black lids. Always check the label on the cart before adding your recyclables.

GLASS, PLASTIC AND METALS

PAPER

 GLASS
  • Shoe boxes
  • Computer paper
  • Paper bags
  • Paper towel and toilet paper tubes
  • Junk mail
  • Magazines & catalogs
  • Paper folders
  • Shredded paper (place in a paper bag to prevent litter)
  • Staples are OK in paper, but please remove paper clips and clasps  
  • Clean pizza boxes (no cheese or grease)
  •  Phone books
  • Newspaper
  • Wrapping paper
  • Cereal & other paperboard boxes
  • Egg cartons
  • Small pieces of cardboard: place in the cart
  • Large pieces of cardboard: remove all packing material, flatten, and stack on the ground next to the recycling cart, or place in the cardboard recycling bin (if present)
  • Books -- Paperback books can be placed in the recycling cart. To recycle hardbacks books, remove the binding and place the pages in the recycling cart, the binding in the trash.
  • Glass food jars
  • Glass beverage bottles
  • All colors of glass are OK
 METALS
  • Aluminum cans
  • Tin/steel cans
  • Aluminum foil
  • Empty aerosol cans
  • Empty paint cans
  • Foil pie plates
  • Metal lids and caps

Note: All containers should be empty and relatively free of food and other contaminants. Please consider rinsing containers before placing in your recycling cart.

PLASTIC
  • All #1, #2, #3, #4, #5, #6, and #7 rigid plastics
  • Any plastic container with a #1, #2, #3, #5, #6 or #7 recycling symbol
  • Plastic caps & lids (keep plastic lids on plastic containers for recycling) 
  • Laundry baskets
  • Plastic crates & buckets
  • Plastic flower pots
  • Children’s outdoor plastic toys (sandboxes, slides, play kitchens)*
  • CD and DVD cases

* These items may be too large to fit in the recycling cart—the lid must be able to close. Please take these to the recycling center at 2727 2nd Street for free recycling drop-off 24/7

Do not put these items in with glass, plastics and metals

Do not put these items in with paper

  • Plastic Bags - grocery bags, produce bags, re-sealable food storage bags, plastic food wrap, shrink wrap, and other miscellaneous plastic wrap, cannot be placed in the recycling cart. Plastic bags and film that are CLEAN (no food, dirt or other debris on them) and DRY can be taken to many local grocery stores free recycling.
  • Packing foam & polystyrene packing peanuts - some shipping and packing stores may accept them for reuse.
  • Bio-degradable or compostable “plastic” containers
  • Auto glass
  • Ceramics & porcelain
  • Fluorescent light bulbs & tubes
  • Incandescent light bulbs
  • Mirrors
  • Window glass
  • Dishes, plates, bowls & glasses
  • Scrap Metal
  • Contaminated plastics—items covered in dirt, food, or other materials.
  • Electronics
  • Soy/ milk cartons and any other refrigerated cartons
  • Juice boxes and other shelf-stable cartons
  • Frozen food boxes
  • Paper towels
  • Tissues
  • Plastic Bags
  • Thermal receipts
  • Ice cream cartons
  • Plastic/wax coated paper
