In 2006, the City Council created a part-time Independent Police Auditor position. The Davis Independent Police Auditor is an independent entity hired to assist with concerns about the police department and to make recommendations to improve the delivery of police services. The Police Auditor reviews personnel complaint investigations, takes personnel complaints about the Police Department from people who do not feel comfortable going directly to the Department, and interacts with community members and organizations.
Michael Gennaco, the Independent Police Auditor may be contacted by email at firstname.lastname@example.org
If you wish to make a citizen’s complaint about a specific interaction with the Police Department, you must fill out a citizen complaint form. This form is also available at the Davis Police Department, and at the City Manager's Office in City Hall. If you return a citizen’s complaint to the Independent Police Auditor, it will be forwarded to the police department for formal resolution. The Police Auditor can help guide you through the complaint process.
