Urban Forestry Volunteer Intern (Unpaid)

This urban forest volunteer will be maintaining young trees in parks and streetscapes throughout the City. Duties will include tree well mulching and weeding for the park and street trees; watering young trees; structure pruning of young trees under 15' tall (training required); staking, stake replacement, or un-staking of city trees, tree inventory data entry & tracking.

Flexible, part time, approx. 4-35 hours per week with the guidance of the Urban Forest Manager. Hours are flexible primarily, Monday - Friday between 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Must have valid Driver's License and clean driving record.

Desired Qualifications:
Knowledge of tree species & computer data base systems; Able to use pruning tools; organizational skills; ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Sustainability Program Volunteer Intern (Unpaid)

Duties: Assist at public workshops, conduct research on new projects, perform field surveys, write technical reports and proposals, distribute sustainability outreach materials, meet and greet with the public at events, maintain demonstration compost bins, and assist with miscellaneous sustainability program activities.

Minimum Qualifications: An interest in recycling, composting, water conservation, pollution prevention and sustainability, possession of a valid California driver's license and auto insurance, and capability to lift 25 lbs.  Minimum 10 hours a week commitment required. Candidates who need internship credit are placed on a higher priority.

Public Works Department staff will receive, review and contact applicants for interviews.
