Playfield's Park - Inclusive Playground Design Project

The City is proposing the development of its first inclusive playground - an innovative space designed to welcome individuals of all ages and abilities to play side-by-side. Featuring adaptive play structures, diverse sensory elements and multigenerational components. The playground will create a space where our community can play together. An inclusive playground creates a welcoming space for diverse abilities by considering physical, sensory, cognitive, communication and social-emotional needs. Our baseline design will include access ramps and ground level play elements, accessible surfacing and wide pathways, fencing to keep play within the play area and native and sustainable plantings.

After multiple outreach events and surveying the community interest, we have submitted an application for the Land and Water Conservation Fund grant. Working closely with GHD Design, we have developed a playground rendering below that includes shaded play areas, inclusive structures, nature and natural elements and gathering places for a variety of ages and abilities.

Community Outreach

The City conducted an online survey seeking community input on the theme and preferred equipment or elements to include in the design process. We received 176 responses and have passed along the feedback to our designers. The design firm will take that feedback and create two conceptual design proposals for our June 24 onsite meeting.
