PROJECT INFORMATION

10/30 UPDATE!!

The Bucklebury/Shire intersection will be paved Friday, Oct. 31, from 7 a.m. to noon. (not Monday, Nov. 3, as stated in previous message). Residents who need in-and-out access in that immediate area will need to park their cars elsewhere tomorrow. Contractors are noticing the neighborhood now.

Phase 4 preparation for paving on Evenstar and Elendil is still occurring, Thursday, Oct. 30, and Friday, Oct. 31. Paving is scheduled on Evenstar and Elendil on Monday, 11/3, and Tuesday, 11/4.

Village Homes Paving Update 10/29

Phase 4 paving on Evenstar and Elendil is occurring tomorrow, Thursday, Oct. 30, and Friday, Oct. 31. In addition, there will be some maintenance hole work at Shire and Bucklebury tomorrow, Oct. 30, with traffic control in place.

On Monday, Nov. 3, paving continues on Evenstar and Elendil, and the last part of the job will be to pave the intersection of Shire and Bucklebury. Residents who need in-and-out access in that immediate area will need to park their cars elsewhere (see map attached).

Crews will be continue to be present in the neighborhood raising utilities and doing work inspections the weeks of Nov. 3 and Nov. 10.

As always, this schedule is dependent on weather.

Village Homes Paving Update Week of 10/27

We are on target to pave the rest of Phase 3 (Bucklebury, Rivendell and Shire) starting on Monday, 10/27. Residents on Bree and Creekhollow (already paved) and the streets to be paved will still need to move their cars if they need in and out access.

Phase 4 paving on Elendil and Evenstar is scheduled to occur on 10/30, 10/31 and 11/3.

The crews will still be around for the rest of the week of 11/3 raising utilities and doing some road striping, but everyone will have full access to their homes during this time.

Imperial Paving Update 10/16/25

As part of this project, Imperial Avenue is also being paved. Paving prep and paving will take place on 10/21-10/27 (weather permitting). Please note there will be no parking signs and a complete road closure on paving day (currently set for 10/27).

All bike paths that feed into Imperial will be closed during this period. Please click the link below for paving closures and detour maps.

Update 10/15/25

Our current schedule shows the rest of Phase 3 (Bucklebury, Rivendell and Shire) being paved on 10/28 and 10/29.  Residents on Bree and Creekhollow (already paved) and the streets to be paved will still need to move their cars if they need in and out access. Phase 4 paving on Elendil and Evenstar is scheduled to occur on 10/30, 10/31 and 11/3. Of course, rain may change this schedule.

Update 9/30/25

Paving will begin on Wednesday, 10/1, on Bree Lane, Creek Hollow Lane and Rivendell Lane. Homes on Bucklebury and Shire will be impacted because of trucks and general paving operations and residents on those streets will still need to move their cars if they need in-and-out access during the day. However, Bucklebury and Shire will not be paved until early November.

Part of this paving project also includes paving on Imperial Avenue, which will be paved 10/27-10/31.

There will then be a break in the paving schedule and Elendil and Evenstar will be paved 11/3-11/7 (along with Bucklebury and Shire).

Please know that schedules can change because of weather or labor factors.

Please contact Barbara Archer at barcher@cityofdavis.org or at 530-400-3418 with questions.

Update 9/18/25

All potholing (utility identification) and concrete work is anticipated to be done by the end of this week for all project streets.

Paving will start next week (likely start Tuesday or Wednesday). Paving work for next week will be in Phase 1 (Westernesse, Poppy, Overhill). Residents will be notified again with door hangers for this part of the project.

Once paving begins on a street in the morning, there will be no in-and-out access during the day. Consider parking on other streets in Village Homes or on nearby streets, such as Hatteras Place, Ganges Place, Feather Place or Eel Place.  Humboldt and Calaveras are also other parking options. If cars do not need to be used during the day, then parking in private driveways or visitor parking areas is fine as long as cars are fully contained within the parking stalls.

Roads will be open for driving after work concludes at the end of each day (after 5 p.m.). Note that there will be a 2” lip at people’s driveways until the final paving lift goes in. Work will not move on to Phase 2 until Phase 1 is fully paved out (i.e., no lip at driveways).

Phase Maps for Phases 1-3 are now posted below in the Plans/Map section.

Update 8/7/25:

Utility locating and tree trimming is continuing, and concrete work is starting on Westernesse followed by Bombadil, Overhill, Oakenshield and Poppy. Once these areas are completed, the contractor will begin concrete work on Bree, Bucklebury, Shire, Elendil and Evenstar. This work includes parking areas. City staff is communicating personally with all those who have driveways affected by this work.

Parking Guidance:

We are suggesting to residents that if they need quick in-and-out access during concrete work and paving during the day that they consider parking on a nearby street, such as Hatteras Place, Ganges Place, Feather Place or Eel Place.  Also, some visitor parking is not affected by the work. Humboldt and Calaveras are also other parking options.

Paving work is expected to start sometime in September.

If you have questions, see the staff contact section of this web page.

Update 7/21/2025:

Preliminary work for the Village Homes paving project, such as utility locating and tree trimming, will begin the week of August 4 followed by paving and concrete repairs. The paving will be completed in phases and is scheduled to be done by the end of the year.

Residents will receive notices at the start of construction and when work impacts their particular areas. Work hours are Mon-Fri, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please expect construction noise and dust. If you are in the immediate area of the work, there will be parking restrictions and during certain phases of the paving, you may not have access to your driveway or street.

Project updates and alternate parking arrangements will be listed on this webpage and in the Village Homes neighborhood on NextDoor.

We apologize for the inconvenience of doing this work during the school year, but we will diligently work with the contractor to minimize any inconvenience as much as possible.

Thank you for your patience as the City improves the paving in this neighborhood for the first time since it was built in the 1970’s!
