Downtown Outdoor Dining Program

The Downtown Outdoor Dining launched on August 15, 2024, and is overseen by the Economic Development department in the City Manager's Office. Businesses fronting G Street between 2nd and 3rd Streets have been able to rent space on the platforms since December 2024. This applies to local restaurants who are requesting to either construct an expanded service area in specific parts of the public right-of-way or utilize existing public civic space for expanded service.

By July 1, 2026, all of downtown Davis businesses that have outdoor dining should be in compliance of the Outdoor Dining program. The Outdoor Dining program is starting with G Street as it is newly renovated with the platforms.

There is no deadline to apply for the Downtown Outdoor Dining Program. Businesses can submit forms anytime during business hours for the Downtown Outdoor Dining Program.

Checklist and Application for the Outdoor Dining Program License Agreement

Read and follow the Design Standards

Businesses are required to pay an application fee and complete a checklist prior to commencing negotiations for the license agreement. Here is the approved Fee Schedule by the City Council.

The application and deposit check may be turned in at the City Planning counter at 23 Russell Blvd. The counter is open from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding holiday closures. Alternatively, the application can be submitted to onlinepermits@cityofdavis.org and outdoordining@cityofdavis.org. Please contact the counter staff at 530-757-5610 for confirmation of receipt and an estimated timeframe for when the online payment link will be sent. Applicants are also welcome to apply in person at the City Hall Planning counter.

Businesses will be required to adhere to the City’s furnishing requirements and design standards depending on the type of improvement described in the interest form.

Note: Payment of the application fee does not guarantee that the license will be entered into between the business and the City.

STEP 3: License Agreement Execution

Ongoing Renewals/Conversion of Existing Agreements

All businesses interested in renewing at the end of the term of their license agreement, typically one-year agreement, can do so with a simplified renewal application.

All businesses currently using the public realm for commerce will be required to be compliant with the downtown outdoor dining program by July 1, 2026.
