Woodbridge/Willowbank Habitat Area
Overview
The Woodbridge/Willowbank Habitat Area is located along another stretch of what remains of the old North Fork of Putah Creek in South Davis, near Mace Boulevard. The Woodbridge habitat area is about 3.5 acres (on the north bank) and the Willowbank habitat area is about 1.5 acres (on the south bank). Beginning in the 1870s, Putah Creek was diverted into the South Fork channel to prevent the City of Davis from flooding. The historic natural channel is now the UC Davis Arboretum Waterway, the Putah Creek Parkway, and this remnant of riparian habitat. Although it no longer serves as a waterway, this five-acre habitat area still provides critical wildlife habitat, including for foxes. It includes two types of habitat (i.e., grassland and riparian habitat). It includes a packed-dirt pedestrian path. The habitat area is #6 and #15 on the map below.
The habitat area is open seven days a week, from dawn to dusk.
