Overview

The Old North Fork of Putah Creek greenbelt runs through the City's Willowbank and Willowcreek neighborhoods, and is a portion of what is left of the old North Fork of Putah Creek.  This portion of the old North Fork of Putah Creek is owned and maintained by Yolo County.  Beginning in the 1870s, Putah Creek was diverted into the South Fork channel to protect the City of Davis from flooding.  The historic natural channel is now the UC Davis Arboretum Waterway, the Putah Creek Parkway, and the Old North Fork of Putah Creek greenbelt.  It no longer serves as a waterway.  But the greenbelt still provides critical wildlife habitat.  It also offer recreational opportunities (hiking, biking, wildlife viewing).  It includes two types of habitat (i.e., grassland and dry riparian habitat).  There is a paved bike/pedestrian trail that meanders through the entire length of the greenbelt, which terminates at the Woodbridge/Willowbank Open Space Area. The greenbelt is open seven days a week, from dawn to dusk.
