On July 1, 2019, the City of Davis received a demand letter from Rexroad Law alleging that the City’s current at-large election system violates the California Voting Rights Act (CVRA). The letter threatens legal action if the City does not take action to transition to district-based elections within the timeline provided in Section 10010 of the California Elections Code. The main remedy under the CVRA is to move to district-based elections. On August 13, 2019, the City Council adopted a resolution of intent to transition to district-based elections.
This webpage will be regularly updated as the City completes the process to transition to district elections.
Draft maps are available for review. The draft maps include maps provided by the City's demographer, maps created by community members at the September 21 workshop, and maps submitted by community members.
