Celebrate César Chávez on April 26 with Sí Se Puede: The Power of Collective Action Event

Post Date:April 16, 2025 2:16 pm

The City’s annual César Chávez Celebration will be held on Saturday, April 26, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. during the Davis Farmers Market in Central Park located at 401 C Street. Sponsored by the City of Davis Human Relations Commission, this year’s theme is “Sí Se Puede: The Power of Collective Action.” Community members of all ages are encouraged to attend this free event to celebrate and honor the work of civil rights leader César Chávez.

The program promises an exciting lineup featuring the City of Davis Poet Laureate, Woodland Folklorico, Mariachi del Valle and more. Attendees can look forward to inspiring speakers, performances and dancers. Additionally, there will be an art activity and resource tables highlighting local organizations.

“Each year with this event, we honor the remarkable life of civil rights leader César Chávez,” said Davis Mayor Bapu Vaitla. “In fighting for the rights of farmworkers, Chávez taught the world that everyone has the right to be treated with dignity and respect, regardless of livelihood or immigration status. Each of us contributes our work to the betterment of society; each of us has value. These simple and powerful ideas are César Chávez's legacy."

For those interested and not able to attend, the event will be livestreamed on the City of Davis Human Relations Commission Facebook page.
