Phase 1 of the G Street Activation is done now that the grand opening of G Street occurred on January 27. Our sincere gratitude to everyone who has been patiently waiting for the opening of G Street while construction, cleaning and maintenance have been completed and finalized, as mentioned in our 1/6/25 update. We wanted to ensure that key internal operations and maintenance responsibilities, that are essential to long-term success of the space, were completed before opening.
While the first phase of infrastructures is complete and ready for community enjoyment, the City plans to implement additional phases to make further enhancements to the space over time, including additional furniture/group seating, art and family-friendly activities, music/special events, signage and more.
Businesses that front G Street will be able to rent space on the platforms to have exclusive outdoor dining as an extension of their businesses through the Downtown Outdoor Dining Program. This has been available to businesses since December 2024. Businesses that rent platform space will be able to utilize their own furnishings, including group seating, heaters, planters, umbrellas, swamp coolers and more, pursuant to the City’s furnishing requirements and design standards. By July 1, 2026, all of downtown Davis businesses that have outdoor dining will be in compliance of the Outdoor Dining program. The Outdoor Dining program is starting with G Street as it is newly renovated with the platforms.
