Feb. 27, 2025 – The City of Davis announced today that the City Council has appointed current Assistant City Manager Kelly Stachowicz to interim city manager effective March 31, 2025, while the Council launches a search for a permanent city manager. 

City Manager Mike Webb and Assistant City Manager Kelly Stachowicz will be collaborating closely to ensure that a clear and seamless plan is in place that is focused on Council goals, alignment of priorities and clear communication to help prioritize and meet the needs of the community during this time of transition. More information will be shared once an executive search firm has been selected and the recruitment for the city manager position is underway. 

“Kelly is extremely knowledgeable and skilled in the functions and processes related to the City,” said Mayor Bapu Vaitla. “I have no doubt that Kelly will be an excellent interim city manager while subsequent steps are taken to find the next city manager.” 

Kelly has been assistant city manager with the City of Davis since 2015 and has more than three decades of experience working in local and state government. Kelly has worked with the City in different capacities in the City Manager’s Office for over 20 years, originally hired as an economic development coordinator. As assistant city manager, she works with all City departments and the City Council on policy issues and a variety of projects. Prior to coming to Davis, Kelly worked in economic and workforce development in local government in Connecticut and for the State of North Carolina.

Kelly has a master’s degree in public administration from North Carolina State University and a bachelor’s degree in government from Dartmouth College. Her two children, both products of Davis Joint Unified School District, are grown and flown, and she resides in Davis with her husband, Jay, a faculty member at UC Davis, and one goofy labradoodle.
