North Putah Creek Vegetation Clean-up Nov. 5-7 and Nov. 12-14

Post Date:October 31, 2024 10:00 am

From November 5-7 and November 12-14 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., the City of Davis, in partnership with the California Conservation Corp, will remove dead trees/vegetation, downed woody debris, ladder fuels and dense, dry stands of shrubbery in 10 acres of the North Putah Creek area, off the pathway and on the upper edges of the creek to help with wildfire abatement. The project area is located on the southern boundary of the City of Davis's Willowcreek subdivision, just north of the Willowbank and Old Willowbank subdivisions in unincorporated Yolo County.

Mature, healthy trees will not be affected by this project and wildlife specialists have inspected the area. The work is occurring outside of nesting season for birds or other wildlife, and there will be no negative impacts to wildlife. All reasonable efforts will be made to prune trees and preserve their overall health and integrity.

This work was last done in March 2023 also in partnership with the California Conservation Corps. Now is a good time to do this work as it is outside nesting season and will help ensure the area is maintained appropriately for the dual function of stormwater conveyance and habitat. The City is working with the fire marshal and its Urban Forestry and Ecological Resources Program staff to ensure the work is done safely and according to the maintenance plan. The City also has an Incident Action Plan. Staff will be on site during the days of work to assist with the effort and check for safety.

The public may experience a few minor impacts during the work hours of the project, such as noise from machinery and temporary, limited access to the bike path.
