Downtown Water Valve and Hydrant Work Starts June 20

Post Date:June 18, 2024 9:24 am
The City will conduct preventative maintenance of water valves and fire hydrants throughout the entire downtown core area starting Thursday, June 20. This work needs to be done about every five to seven years to keep the City’s water infrastructure working properly.

How will this affect your business? The City will schedule this work in the early morning from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays for a few weeks. Water shut-offs during this window will be periodic and typically very short (up to a minute or so) as the maintenance is performed. In addition, the City will be flushing the water system, which may cause the water to appear brown. Businesses will have to flush out their pipes by running the water for a short time, until the water runs clear again, before resuming normal operations.

Residents/businesses may only experience temporary discolored water and not the water shut-off itself.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact City of Davis Public Information Officer Barbara Archer at barcher@cityofdavis.org.
