May 4 at 2:12 PM: Arrest Made

Post Date:May 04, 2023 2:12 pm

Yesterday, May 3, 2023, at approximately 3:20 pm, the Davis Police Department Dispatch Center and TIP hotline began receiving a cluster of calls regarding a person matching the suspect description that had been provided following the stabbing attack at 2nd Street and L Street. The callers reported the person had been in Sycamore Park and was wandering in the surrounding areas.  Officers responded to the area as calls kept coming in and the person was eventually located at Pine Lane and Colby Drive, which is very close to where the 2nd homicide occurred. The responding officers agreed that this person, who has now been identified as 21-year-old Carlos Dominguez out of Davis, was a very close match to the suspect who had been described in the last two attacks.

Located on his person was a large fixed blade knife. Officers and detectives quickly determined that Dominguez was a “person of interest” in the recent attacks and transported him to the Police Department for further questioning after he consented to their request. Dominguez was interviewed at length and officers collected significant evidence from his person including the clothes he was wearing which appeared to be identical to the clothing description provided after the 3rd attack.

Earlier this morning, at about 1:20 am, Dominguez was booked at the Yolo County Jail for a weapons violation relating to the knife he possessed. Detectives are currently serving a related search warrant at the Davis residence where Dominguez lives. Significant and related evidence has already been discovered.

Based on the information and evidence collected so far, Dominguez was placed under arrest for 2 counts of murder for the killings of David Breaux and Karim Abou Najm; and one count of attempted murder for the stabbing attack of Kimberlee Guillory, who is recovering from her wounds. This arrest took place just after 1:00 pm today.
