City of Davis to Renovate Seven Parks with Grant Award
Oct. 15, 2019 - The City of Davis announced today that it was one of 40 agencies in California selected to receive a grant sponsored through the California Park & Recreation Society (CRPS), PlayCore and Game Time. The $147,000 grant is part of two million-dollar, state-wide healthy play initiative and will help align research based best practices to create high quality play and recreation environments.
The grant will go toward the equipment replacement at these playgrounds: Cedar Park, El Macero Park, Northstar Mini Park, Oak Grove Park, Redwood Park, Village Park and Willow Creek Park.
Many of the playgrounds have not been updated in over 20 years and need updated play features based on more recent play philosophies. In addition, adult fitness apparatus will be added to El Macero Park and Village Park.
“We are grateful to receive this grant that will allow us to update aging play structures and enhance children’s play at these Davis parks,” said Mike Webb, Davis City Manager.
The City is seeking feedback on the proposed projects and has created survey links for each park. In addition, outreach to the neighborhoods closest to the selected playgrounds will be conducted via Davis Neighbors Night Out gatherings and park-site visits will begin in the next week.
Surveys for the seven park sites can be taken at:
Construction will take place in various stages from January through March 2020, pending weather conditions.
