CITY RELEASES FIRST ROUND OF DISTRICT ELECTION MAPS

Oct. 1, 2019The City of Davis announced today that it has released the first set of district election maps to be considered by the Davis City Council.  The city plans to convert to district elections starting with the November 2020 election.

In a district election system, the City is divided into separate geographic districts. Each Councilmember is elected by the registered voters of the particular district in which the Councilmember resides. Voters do not vote for candidates outside their district.

The City has conducted two public hearings on district election at City Council meetings. The City staffed outreach efforts at the Davis Farmers Market and held two workshops on Sept. 21 led by demographics firm Redistricting Partners.

Of the five maps published today, three of them show options for five districts. Two of the maps show options for seven districts.
