The Veterans Memorial Theatre strives to be at the center of Davis Arts and Culture. We are a home for the city’s performance and visual arts, cultural events and community offerings. We hope to create a social gathering space for dialogue and the exchange of ideas in order to foster civic identity. Additionally, we look to support local organizations and independent artists in order to build a stronger creative economy.

If you have more than 80 performers, you may need to reserve an additional space for performance days.

Before reservations for the Veterans Memorial Theatre can be made you will need to set up a consultation with a member of the theatre staff. These consultations are to assess the needs of your event including the amount of space, set-up and rehearsal time, technical equipment, theatre staffing, and front of house considerations.
Please contact the theatre office to arrange a consultation on potential rentals of the theatre at: (530) 747-5862 or VMT@cityofdavis.org.
After the consultation, theatre staff will submit your reservation request and provide you with a quote that fits your specific needs. The process will then continue by you contacting the city’s reservation desk at City Hall to confirm your reservation. It is here you will pay your deposit and fee, provide proof of insurance and permits, and receive your deposit refund.
Our staff do not have regular office hours but will respond to inquires in 1-2 business days. All tours must be scheduled in advance.

Liability Insurance Requirements
The City of Davis reserves the right to require insurance for any rentals of City facilities depending upon event, activity or facility being used. Additionally, the City of Davis requires liability insurance coverage for:
- All field rentals
- Facility rentals
- Picnic area rentals that include alcohol or water access
- Commercial bounce houses (bounce house companies typically provide the coverage)
- Stages
The general liability and endorsement certificates must name the City of Davis, its agents, directors, employees and volunteers as additional insured on the policy. All events with alcohol must include Liquor Liability coverage. Certificates and endorsements must be received 15 days prior to the rental date or rental may not be granted. General liability per occurrence minimum is $2M.
The certificate holder must include: City of Davis, its agents, directors, employees and volunteers / 23 Russell Blvd. / Davis, CA 95616.
The City of Davis, its agents, directors, employees and volunteers should be listed on the Endorsement page.

Is parking available at the Theater?
The parking lot adjacent to the Veterans Memorial Theater is free and does not require a permit. Additional parking is available on the streets or the at the Library.
How do I purchase tickets to upcoming events?
The Veterans Memorial Theater does not handle any ticket sales. All sales and reservations go through the rental group. Check the Calendar for additional information on our upcoming events and where to purchase tickets from.
Are Food & Drinks allowed at the theater?
- With approval from the Theater Manager, food and drink can be allowed throughout the theater at the Renter's discretion. However, the renter is responsible for any additional clean up required.
Is anything prohibited on stage?
The following items are not allowed on stage:
- Glitter
- Confetti
- Rice
- Duck Tape
- Hazardous liquids (gasoline, kerosene)
- Open flames*
- Pyrotechnics
* Open/ enclosed flames are allowed only at the discretion of the Theater Manager and and Fire Marshal. It must be approved in advance
What does the rental price include?

The rental price will include:
- One onsite technician for the duration of your rental
- One VMT Staff member for Front of House during set up and for the duration of time the public is in the building
- Access to the reserved facility rooms
- All available technical equipment
There is no additional fee for use of the projector or microphones
Can a rental group be trained to use VMT equipment (sound board, light board, etc)
- Yes! Especially for longer rentals, VMT staff can arrange to train your participants on our equipment.
- This must be discussed before hand during the consultation. Additional fees may be associated.
Can rental groups bring in their own equipment to incorporate to VMT's existing tech?
- Generally, yes! Request must be approved in advance by the Theater Manager.
How do I reserve the Theater?
In order to book the theater you must complete the following steps:
- Send an inquiry with your requested dates to our staff at (530) 747-5862 or VMT@cityofdavis.org
- Consultation with the Coordinator or Manager
- A site visit if needed
- Review and approve the rental quote
- Send a completed Rental Application to the Coordinator or Manager
Once a reservation is made:
- Full Payment is due 30 days in advance of your first rental date
- Proof of Insurance is due 15 days in advance of your first rental date

This specialized theater intensive guides kids through a hands-on exploration of all the elements of creating an original play, performed on the last day of the session. From playwriting to performance, design to fabrication, campers spend two weeks creating, rehearsing, and producing with support from professional teaching artists and counselors. *Recommended for students with prior theater experience*
