Did you know?

You might be paying for electricity that you don't really use?

  • Your lights may be using more electricity for heat than for producing light,
  • Your air conditioner or furnace may be conditioning your attic instead of your living room,
  • Your appliances may use lots of power even when turned off

It's Easy To Fix

Save over $125 annually by following these three simple steps:
  1. Replace 3 old style light bulbs with modern fluorescent twisters
  2. Set your heat at 68 in winter and your AC at 78 in summer
  3. Unplug 3 appliances - or switch off a power strip full of plugs - when not in use

Other ways to save energy this year:

Lighting:

  • Low-Cost: Replace your old halogen Torchiere lamps with modern fluorescent Torchieres.

Appliances:

  • Low-Cost: Buy an automatic timer to control the power to items that are used daily for short periods of time (i.e. coffee machine, etc.)
  • Investment: Replace your old, inefficient appliances with EnergyStar® versions.

Heating and Air:

  • Low Cost: Invest in a programmable thermostat to maximize the efficiency of your heating and cooling system by automatically adjusting your home's temperature at night or when your home is empty.
  • Investment: Replace your compressor-based air conditioning system with a natural cooling (evaporative) unit and save major money on your cooling bills.

By taking these simple steps you are saving yourself money, but also reducing the amount of CO2 released into the atmosphere, offsetting rising energy costs, allowing more money to be spent in Yolo County, and reducing the dependence on foreign energy sources. Increasing the energy efficiency of your home also means getting more comfort for less money, better quality for less energy, and increased productivity with less waste.
