Where is Your Beat?
In a city where the population is growing and demographics are changing, it is increasingly important for the police department and community to form partnerships. We can work together to develop innovative strategies to reduce crime and to provide a safe environment for community members and visitors to the City of Davis.
The members of the Davis Police Department are an extension of the community in which we serve. In order to enhance community / police interaction, patrol officers are assigned designated areas of responsibility called a beat (commonly referred to as a "beat"). The patrol officer is responsible for responding to calls for service and collaborating with community members to find solution to problems that arise in the officer's beat.
As important as it is for an officer to take responsibility for their beat, it is equally important for the citizens who reside in the beat. The residents in the beat are encouraged to actively participate in maintaining the safety of their neighborhoods by learning signs of criminal activity, getting to know their neighbors, calling the police department when they observe criminal activity, and exploring preventive measures to reduce the chance of victimization.
