Programs & Activities: Special Events
St. Patrick's Irish Coffee Party - generally held on or around March 17; this event is a celebration of everything Irish, and is designed to promote community interaction in a safe, fun environment. The event generally includes hearty finger foods, dancing to a live band, as well as supplemental entertainment of some form, either dance or singing performances. Ticket prices are usually in the range of $5-$8 per person, and can be purchased at the Davis Senior Center office in February and March. Advanced ticket reservations are required, general attendance is approximately 125 people.
International Party - generally held mid-April; this is a magical opportunity to celebrate California's rich ethnic diversity through the gourmet contributions of Davis' many restaurants. In addition, phenomenal local talent entertains as part of the floorshow. Door prizes from local merchants abound! Tickets are available for purchase at the beginning of March at the Davis Senior Center office.
On The Move! Annual Fitness Walk & Breakfast - generally held on a Friday morning in mid-May; Join us as we "step out" to raise the profile of older adults in our community. Active seniors and everyone interested is invited to put on their walking shoes and join us for the one-mile walk beginning at the senior center. After a brisk walk led by the Cal Aggie Marching Band we will return to the center for a complimentary continental breakfast. Registration for the walk will begin in April by calling the Senior Center at (530) 757-5696.
Ice Cream Social & Volunteer Party - generally held on the 3rd Thursday in August; this event celebrates all of the wonderful volunteers who make the Senior Center such a hive of activity. What's even better, we celebrate with ice cream!!! To come and concoct your own super sundae treat, reservations should be made in by mid-August. Participants of all ages, volunteers or not, are welcome!
Health Fair/ Flu Shots - generally held the latter part of October or early November, from 9:00 a.m. to Noon. The annual Davis Senior Center/Sutter Health Fair provides an opportunity for interested seniors to get their flu shots. The Yolo County Health Department offers the flu shots for a minimal fee, and seniors age 60 and over, caregivers and people with chronic diseases (with proof) are eligible to receive the immunization. In addition, other health checks (body fat, blood pressure, foot screenings, hearing aid checks/cleanings, and eyeglass repair/cleaning are available, as well informational booths on a variety of topics of interest to older adults are featured.
Mad Hatter's Tea Party - generally held mid-November; here is an opportunity to express your creativity by coming up with a hat or tie that expresses the inner "you", while joining us for a "cuppa". Reserve a place at the tea table by calling the Davis Senior Center mid-November to purchase tickets. Entertainment and a hat & tie judging contest will accompany tea and goodies.
Holiday Craft Boutique - generally held in early December, the Senior Center hosts crafters eager to sell you the perfect gift for the holidays. Ceramics, knitting, paintings, jewelry, cookbooks and more are featured. Admission is fee, and everyone is encouraged to stop by and shop. Anyone interested in participating as a vendor may pick up an application at the main office of the Davis Senior Center, 646 A Street. For more information contact us at (530) 757-5696.
Holiday Dinner & Dance - generally held on the second Tuesday in December; this event is a celebration of our diversity and our collective beliefs of the holiday season. The event features holiday entertainment, a catered dinner by a local restaurant, dancing to a live band, and general good fellowship. Ticket prices range from $15-$20 per person, and can be purchased at the Davis Senior Center office in November and December. Advanced ticket reservations are required, general attendance is approximately 150 people.
