Third & B Photo Contest
Teen Photo Contest - "Through the Lens of a Teen"
2008 City of Davis Teen Photography Contest
“Through the Lens of a Teen” photo contest winners are on display in the main hallway at City Hall throughout the month of June. This year’s winners are Erin Childs (1st place Black and White), Shealyn Wallace (2nd place Black and White), Jennifer Kerr (3rd place Black and White), Johann Baptista (1st place Color), Emily Farrell (2nd place Color), and Shealyn Wallace (3rd place Color).
City Hall is located at 23 Russell Boulevard (corner of Russell Blvd. & B St.), and the pictures may be viewed during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
All entries were displayed at a reception on Wednesday May 14, 2008 at the 3rd & B Teen Center. Tyler Mitchell, this contest’s first year’s 1st place Color and 2nd place Black and White winner spoke at the reception, inspiring and encouraging this year’s photographers to follow their passions, develop their skills, and save their money. Tyler has been published multiple times since his debut with the “Through the Lens of a Teen.”
Judges this year were Nikki Sheldon (Teen Center Staff Member), Tyler Mitchell (2006 “Through the Lens of a Teen” contest winner), Neil Michael (Axiom Photo), Erie Vitiello (Director of the Davis Art Center), and Alex Gutierrez (manager of Ritz Camera). Photographs were judged on composition, color balance, contrast, focus, creativity, and how well the photo captured the Davis experience.
