Internet Browser Tips
The primary goal of the City of Davis website is to provide convenient access to City information and services. If you have any suggestions to improve our website, please email us at webmaster@ci.davis.ca.us
The City of Davis Website is designed using W3C complaint CSS and XHTML. By using these web standards we ensure accessible webpages. Our pages will be viewable for all browsers; however,
we recomend using an internet browser that supports web standards like Mozilla FireFox
, a free browser for PC, Mac, and Linux platforms.
The City of Davis website is designed to support the most common internet browsers on both Mac and PC platforms:
- FireFox (1.5 or newer recommended)
- Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) versions 4.x, 5.x, and 6.x (6 or newer recommended)
- Netscape 4.x., 5.x, 6.x and 7.x (7 or newer recommended)
- AOL (8 or newer recommended)
- Opera (7.5 or newer recommended)
- Mozilla (1.7 or newer recommended)
- Other browsers may work, but have not been tested for compatibility.
Our WebPages are best viewed at an 800x600 resolution or above.
Because of WebTV's limitations our pages are generally not supported.
Cookies
Some of our pages use "cookies". These session cookies allow a user to interact with our website. They are typically used where it is necessary to follow a specific user through a process, such as signing up to receive agendas by email. The City of Davis does not use cookies to monitor your use of our or other websites.Accessibility
The City site has been developed to be "text-only" friendly and considerate of users accessing the site with special devices whenever possible. We use descriptive alternative tags (ALT tags) to supplement graphics. If you turn off image loading in your browser, the pages of the site can still be navigated and viewed. For use with special devices, the site has been tested using Bobby.
Adobe PDF documents can be converted to HTML or ASCII text using Adobe Accessibility Tools.
Accessibility is an important issue for our webpages. We are working hard to meet W3C Accessibility Guidelines and Section 508 Accessibility concerns.
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA): The City of Davis has a strong commitment toward meeting the goals of the landmark Americans with Disabilities Act. We follow practices to make our web site compatible with text-based and speech-based web browsers, and to provide information useful to those who are unable to easily access basic City information by other methods. Should you have an ADA-related concern about our web site, please let us know by contacting webmaster@ci.davis.ca.us
Adobe Acrobat
The City of Davis web site contains (PDF) documents and forms that require Adobe Acrobat Reader to view or print. We use this method when the documents are not available in digital form, too large or difficult to produce in HTML, or they are publications where the format is critical to the usability of the document online.
Adobe Acrobat Reader software is available Free. This software allows you to view, navigate and print Portable Document Format (PDF) files.
Some simple help:
- Read the Adobe site instructions on Downloading Adobe Acrobat Reader.
- Get Adobe Acrobat
- Be sure to select the version of Adobe Acrobat Reader that is compatible with your system.
- Follow the Adobe instructions completely. After the download, you will need to install the file by running the executable (.exe file) from your operating system. This is a step many forget.
- Configure your browser options accordingly.
- Upgrade your version periodically to enable you to use the latest features.
- Contact Adobe if you are having trouble installing or using the product.

- If your first search is not successful, try using fewer words, or a synonym.
