Cesar Chavez Plaza Information
Cesar Chavez Plaza (CCP) is a 53 unit apartment style community available for occupancy in fall of 2007. CCP is a great opportunity for low income employees especially in downtown Davis. Cesar Chavez Plaza will be the first affordable community built in downtown Davis in nearly fifteen years. A lottery will be held in early May for these affordable rental units. 35% of the apartments are set aside for people with disabilities. Rents at CCP will range from approximately $250 to $678 per month, depending on the household's income level.
Cesar Chavez Plaza will be close to the downtown with easy access to the W line of Unitrans which stops at the corner of Olive Drive and Richards Boulevard. The W line runs 115 trips a day past Olive Drive. CCP is also close to the Amtrak station and residents who are registered with Davis Community Transit (call 757-4408) can obtain curb to curb service when they call in. Cesar Chavez Plaza is within walking distance of the many employment, service, restaurant and entertainment opportunities within the downtown area.
At Cesar Chavez Plaza there will be 52 one bedroom rental apartments and a two bedroom manager’s unit. All of the apartments have south facing exposure and incorporate energy saving building techniques. Each of the one bedroom apartments will be attractively designed with many modern conveniences. All of the ground floor units will be visitable and a number of the apartments will be built to meet the needs of persons with disabilities. There will be adequate car and bicycle parking on site in addition to handicapped parking.
Residents living at Cesar Chavez Plaza will be encouraged to participate in a Resident’s Council and involve themselves in community activities. In the center of Cesar Chavez Plaza will be a Community Building with a Community Room and kitchen, handicapped accessible restrooms, laundry room, and offices for the on site manager and supportive services coordinator. The community building will be fully handicapped accessible. In front of the Community Building there will be open space for gatherings, a children’s play area and sports activities. There is also an area for community gardens.
Cesar Chavez Plaza is a cooperative partnership of Davis Community Meals, Neighborhood Partners, LLC, and the Yolo County Housing Authority. The land was made available by Lexington Apartments through the City of Davis Affordable Housing Ordinance. Predevelopment funding has come through the Yolo County Housing Authority and the Nehemiah Fund. Permanent financing is provided by the California Housing Finance Agency, the California State Department of Housing, the City of Davis, and Community Development Multi-Family Housing Program and an Affordable Housing Program grant applied for by River City Bank and made available through the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco. Cesar Chavez Plaza will be managed by the John Stewart Company.
