Trauma Bear

Trauma Bear

When children are involved in emergencies, it can be a traumatic experience for them. In order to soften the impact that an emergency may have on our children we have implemented a "Trauma Bear" program. The Teddy and Toy Club of Davis, who are affiliated with the Good Bears of the World Organization, graciously donated the first of our trauma bears. The purpose of the trauma bear program is to help children cope with the stress that they feel from their involvement in a traumatic event. We hope to change their focus to a comforting object during a difficult situation.

The Davis Fire Department will carry trauma bears on all three of our first-out fire engines. They will be given to children 3 years and older. We hope that situations in which we will utilize these bears will be few, but we are pleased to be prepared to make a difference in the lives of our children.
