Sister Cities
Uman, Ukraine
Uman, Ukraine- became a sister city to Davis, California on May 17, 1988. Uman is about 1/3 larger than Davis with a current population of 90,000+ people living there. It is also a college town, with two universities within its boundaries When taking the 200 mile journey from the capital city Kiev to Uman you would see the similarities between Uman and Davis. Uman is surrounded by thousands of square miles of rich, flat farmland. The soil is so fertile it is black which is why the area has been dubbed “Soviet Union’s breadbasket.”
Uman’s proudest landmark is the magnificent Sofivka Park. This 2oo-year-old park has along and interesting history that is essentially a love story with soap opera subplots.
